Trail improvements for cross-country skiing in the Anse-au-Griffon Valley

A concessionaire in Forillon National Park operates a cross-country skiing program in the Anse-au-Griffon Valley area. To prepare the trails used for this activity, the concessionaire has asked the park's trail team to make improvements to the trails. The project therefore, includes several minor improvements:

1: To prevent long-term damage to the trail caused by high soil moisture, the trail base will be raised by adding granular material. This raising of the base does not encroach on the natural environment and protects the wetland immediately adjacent to the trail edge.

2: Installation of a drainage system and a base of materials in an intermittent stream. Since this is a stream (even if intermittent), the improvement must allow fish to pass freely. The installation will consist of a small culvert with a diameter of approximately 20 inches.

3: Widening the trail by 5–6 feet, involving the removal of shrubs and the addition of material to widen the trail base.

4: Pruning and cutting trees along the trail
Cutting mature trees will be avoided by prioritizing a pruning method that allows for the removal of branches that cause problems for the maintenance of the cross-country ski trail.
