Wharf 403 Reconstruction - Newport Harbour - Gaspésie

Wharf 403, constructed in the late 1980s has reached the end of its service life and now exhibits significant structural deterioration. Steel fasteners are heavily corroded and the timber components have degraded, leading to the closure of the wharf to vehicular traffic for several years.

Similarly, the timber crib section of Wharf 401, which dates back to the 1960s, has exceeded its useful lifespan. Reconstructing these structures is essential to maintaining operational capacity within the harbour.

The project will ensure continued support for the snow crab fishery, provide berthing capacity for vessels from the FMP Shipyard, and maintain the harbour's ability to accommodate a potential future Canadian Coast Guard base. Restoring these wharves will return full functionality to this strategic area of the harbour.

This project includes the following activities:

•Demolition of deteriorated treated-timber and concrete structures, with proper disposal of materials.
•Removal of the existing breakwater and recovery of reusable stone.
•Supply and installation of treated timber, plastic siding, galvanized hardware, and concrete slabs for new timber cribs.
•Supply of crushed stone for crib foundations.
•Installation of armour stone and filter stone for riprap protection along the new wharves.
