New Fox Lake RCMP Detachment
This is a non-designated project on federal lands or outside Canada. The listed authorities are responsible for the project assessment.
The Royal Canadian Mounted Police is proposing the construction of a new detachment facility consisting of a new modular detachment and outbuilding on a partially developed site at Little Red River Cree Nation's Fox Lake Indian Reserve No. 162. The new detachment replaces a previous detachment which was lost during the 2023 Paskwa Wildfire which destroyed much of the community.
The new detachment will provide modernized facilities to better serve local community policing needs, and bring the infrastructure to current standards. Modular units will be constructed off-site and delivered and assembled after site preparation work is completed. The remaining construction activities will include utility improvements, road works, parking, drainage, and landscaping. Accompanying equipment will include a backup power supply with associated fuel storage, fuel storage for service vehicles, and a vehicle storage and maintenance area.
There will be some vegetation removal; however, design efforts have incorporated natural landscape grade and vegetation features into a drainage and storm water retention pond. The building is being designed to be net-zero carbon ready per the federal Greening Government Strategy commitments. The facility's design has been informed by a Phase I Environmental Site Assessment, Climate Risk and Vulnerability Assessment (CRiVA), Life Cycle Cost Analysis (LCCA), Wildlife, Ecological, and Wetland Survey, Hydrological Study, and onsite planning walkthrough by environmental planning and engineering staff from, ISC, RCMP, and First Nation representation.
The RCMP is completing the environmental screening process jointly with Indigenous Services Canada.
