New Fibre Installation - Gulf Islands

City West Cable & Telephone Corp. plans to install underground fiber optic cabling, for Internet purposes, to all residential homes in the Mowachaht/Muchalaht and Sidney Island community. The project involves the installation of approximately 3 km of underground fiber optic cable.

The cable is to be buried by directional drilling, trenching, or using existing conduits, or a combination of these methods in existing roadway alignments.


Latest update

June 7, 2026 – The public comment period on the project is closed.  Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada is considering comments received to help inform its determination on whether the carrying out of the project is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.
