Child and Family Services Building

Sturgeon Lake Cree Nation is proposing the development of a child and family services building approximately 2,843m2 on the main floor and an upper floor approximately 712m2.  The building and related parking including out buildings and surrounding area is approximately 25,000m2.  The building is required to meet the increased demand for services in the community and the CFS is currently working out of temporary buildings southeast of the development site.  The community has a development plan.  The site is a former baseball diamond that is no longer in use and excess soil from housing development has been piled on site southwest of the ball diamonds.  A berm around the southwest of the ball diamonds is also comprised of excess soil.  The community sewage lagoon is approximately 300m southeast, a large wetland is ~420m northeast and residential developments are located northwest and west of the site.  Sturgeon School road provides access from the southwest and the school is located across the road.   Prior to development of the site the topsoil pile and berm will need to be removed.  The geotechnical site investigation has identified additional fill material on the ball diamonds which may also need to be removed to meet geotechnical requirements for foundation design.  The source of any required granular or clay fill material will be from a recognized provider to ensure material brought onto the site is clean and free of contamination and compaction requirements can be met.  A schedule of timing for site planning and development activities is provided as an attachment.
