Text

Rainy River First Nations maintains a firm and unequivocal opposition to the proposed Deep Geological Repository for nuclear fuel in the Ignace area. We have serious concerns regarding the long-term environmental risks, potential impacts to our lands and waters, and the inherent uncertainties associated with storing hazardous nuclear waste in proximity to our traditional territory. Our responsibility to protect the health, safety, and future of our membership, along with our duty to uphold our inherent rights and stewardship of the land, does not support proceeding with a project of this magnitude and risk. We expect that our position be fully respected and that no decisions move forward without our free, prior, and informed consent.
