Deep concerns about geological nuclear waste "repository"

I have many concerns about this plan. I don't understand why paying 100's of millions of dollars to one small community and paying millions of dollars to a few municipalities is seen as a legitimate way of getting concent for all of the communities in the region who will be affected. I am very worried about transporting 100's of thousands of tonnes of highly radioactive waste through all of these communities over decades (and who is to say this won't continue indefinitely?). Our highways are not safe and it's not clear what the potential exposures may be to those who live along our highways with this volume of waste transportation and what the results would be from an accident. The testing of transportation containers has been insufficient, despight the bold claims of the NWMO. I am not reasured by their private studies in which they have concluded that radiation will not get into our waterways from this underground site. The impact on plants, animals and humans could be catastrophic. And ultimately I don't think there has been a valid case made for moving all of this waste from their source of production, where it can be monitored and potentially recycled more easily. This seems much more like an out of site, out of mind solution to a problem that needs much more serious thought. We need to have a larger conversation about whether or not this extremely expensive and dangerous source of energy should continue to play such a major role in our national energy strategy when there are more efficient and much cleaner sources of power becoming available. If it is so safe and clean, I can't help but wonder why the nuclear power companies are willing to spend the billions of dollars that this plan will undoubtably cost when all is said and done, just to move it all from one back yard to another. Imagine what inovations in solar and wind power storage could be developed with this kind of money! Labeling nuclear power as the solution to climage change is disingenuous and misleading.
