Notice of Time Limit Suspension with Reasons

Ottawa — August 20, 2025 — The Impact Assessment Agency of Canada (IAAC) suspended the 180-day time limit for the Planning Phase under the Impact Assessment Act for the Peace River Nuclear Power Project proposed by Energy Alberta (the proponent).

IAAC has taken this action following a written request from the proponent that the time limit be suspended between three to six months to allow for further engagement with Indigenous Nations and communities. The additional time was requested to allow for more meaningful participation in the process and to increase community awareness and education related to the nuclear energy sector.

When the proponent has provided IAAC with a written update on these further engagement activities and a request to resume the time limit, IAAC will post a notice that the prescribed activity is completed, and the 180-day time limit will resume.

Comments are accepted throughout the duration of the time limit suspension on the project registry page
