To help inform this determination, Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada is inviting comments from the public respecting that determination. All comments received will be considered public and may be posted online.

The Proposed Project

New Fibre Installation

GCT#3 Representative Services plans to install underground fiber optic cabling, for Internet purposes, to all residential homes in Shoal Lake No.40, Northwest Angle No.33, Lake of the Woods No. 37 (Animakee Wa Zhing #37), Northwest Bay (Naicatchewenin), Eagle Lake, Rainy River First Nations, Couchiching First Nation, Kenora No. 38B (Anishinabe of Wauzhushk Onigum), Grassy Narrows First Nation, Niisaachewan Anishinaabe Nation, Wabaseemoong Independent Nations, Lac Des Mille Lacs, Naotkamegwanning, Whitefish Bay No. 34A (Animakee Wa Zhing #37), Gakijiwanong Anishinaabe Nation, Washagamis Bay, Whitefish Bay No. 33A (Northwest Angle No. 33),Wabauskang No. 21 (Wabauskang First Nation), Seine River No. 23A (Seine River Nation), Wabigoon Lake No. 27 (Wabigoon Lake Ojibway Nation), Saug-A-Gaw-Sing No. 1 (Anishnaabeg of Naongashiing), Big Grassy River No. 35G (Big Grassy), Sabaskong Bay No. 35D (Ojibways of Onigaming First Nation), Shoal Lake No. 39 (Iskatewizaagegan #39 Independent First nation). The project involves the installation of approximately 538.31 km of underground, submarine and aerial fiber optic cable from the intersection of McKay Road South Nezaadikaang and the entrance to the Lac des Mille Lacs community to the intersection of Tony's Road and Main Road West the in the Wabaseemoong Independent Nations community.

The cable will be buried by directional drilling, trenching, or using existing conduits, or a combination of these methods in existing roadway alignments, but will be suspended on support structures to connect to residential homes and businesses.
